# What happens to property enquiries that arrive after 7 pm and on Sundays?

Most wait until the next working morning, and the buyer moves on. The evidence on after-hours enquiries, what the rules allow, and four ways to cover the gap.

## Key takeaways

- Most wait until the next working morning. Studies abroad find evening calls and web enquiries to property businesses usually go unanswered for hours, and no published Indian data says Bengaluru is different.
- An enquiry sent at 7:41 pm and answered at 10 am has waited over 14 hours. By then the buyer has had a whole evening to call other listings.
- After-hours enquiries are common enough to matter. Check your own lead timestamps to see what share of yours arrive after 7 pm and on Sundays.
- A WhatsApp reply can go out at any hour within WhatsApp's rules. Calls placed by software must be declared to your telecom operator.
- Cover the gap with a rota, a telecaller shift, or an automated responder, and measure the result rather than assuming it.

Most enquiries that arrive after 7 pm or on a Sunday wait until the next working morning. Studies abroad show that evening calls and web enquiries to property businesses usually go unanswered for hours. Nobody has published comparable numbers for Bengaluru, so the honest position is that we do not know the local figure yet, and we are measuring it.

## Most after-hours enquiries wait until morning

The evidence that exists points one way: after office hours, almost nobody picks up. All of it is foreign, so treat it as a warning rather than a local measurement.

- **UK, vendor-run, 2026.** A voice-AI company called 3,047 UK estate and letting agency numbers on weekday evenings between May and July\[1]. 94.1% of calls made between 6 pm and 9 pm went unanswered\[1]. The company has a commercial interest in the findings, as the trade article reporting them notes\[1].
- **US, 2026.** A research firm sent 2,198 phone and website enquiries to offices of 21 large US real estate brands\[2]. 68% of website enquiries got no response within 24 hours\[2].

In India, no published study we could find has timed replies to property enquiries by hour of day. Pouncer's [Bengaluru property enquiry response study](https://pouncer.in/case-studies/bengaluru-property-enquiry-response) records evening and Sunday enquiries separately for exactly this reason.

## After-hours enquiries are not rare

A large share of enquiries arrive when sales desks are closed. The same UK company reported that 27% of leads at its own clients came outside office hours, and 31% of viewing requests did\[1]. That is UK data from a vendor with a product to sell, so read it as a sign of scale, not a figure for Bengaluru.

A likely reason, which we have not measured: salaried buyers browse listings after work and at weekends, when the site office and the broker's phone are off duty. Until local data exists, assume your evening and Sunday share is meaningful and check it against your own lead timestamps.

## A night's wait is a long time for a lead

A 7:41 pm enquiry answered at 10 am the next day has waited more than 14 hours. Our arithmetic: 7:41 pm to 10:00 am is 14 hours and 19 minutes, and a Saturday-evening enquiry answered on Monday morning waits more than a day and a half.

The 2011 Harvard Business Review study of US firms found that contacting a lead within an hour made it about 7 times likelier to qualify than waiting longer\[3]. Waiting 24 hours or more cut the odds further: hour-one responders were more than 60 times as likely to qualify the lead\[3]. A Sunday enquiry answered on Monday falls in that second group. The study and its limits are covered in [how fast should you reply to a 99acres or MagicBricks lead?](https://pouncer.in/blog/how-fast-to-reply-to-property-leads)

## What the rules allow after hours

You can reply on WhatsApp at any hour within WhatsApp's policy, and you can call within your own calling hours, with conditions.

- **WhatsApp.** You may message someone who gave you their number and opted in to hear from you. Free-form replies are allowed within 24 hours of their last message; outside that window you must use approved message templates\[4].
- **Calls about an enquiry.** India's telecom regulator allows commercial communication based on a customer's enquiry for seven days from that enquiry. The enquiry must be made in writing or digitally and kept in a verifiable form\[5].
- **Automated calls.** Calls placed by software without a person dialling are application-to-person (A2P) calls. The business must declare them to its telecom operator in advance, or they are treated as unsolicited commercial communication\[5].

Even where a late call is allowed, an 11 pm call is a poor first impression. A reply that night and a call at a civil hour holds the lead without intruding.

## Four ways to cover nights and Sundays

Choose by your volume and your budget, and measure whichever you pick. None of these is free of trade-offs.

1. **A rota.** One salesperson owns evening and Sunday leads, by turn. Cheap, personal, and fragile: it depends on one tired person checking a phone.
2. **A late telecaller shift.** Extend a caller's hours to 9 pm and add Sunday. Reliable while staffed, and it still leaves late night uncovered.
3. **An instant WhatsApp acknowledgement.** A templated reply confirms the enquiry and says when you will call. It holds the buyer's attention without qualifying them.
4. **An automated responder.** Software replies on WhatsApp straight away and calls the buyer back within your calling hours. [Pouncer](https://pouncer.in/) works this way: WhatsApp replies go out at any hour, calls happen between 8am to 9pm, and later enquiries are called first thing the next morning.

For builders whose site office closes in the evening, the [builders page](https://pouncer.in/for-builders) covers how this sits alongside an existing sales desk and channel partners.

## How a 7:41 pm enquiry can go instead

Here is the same enquiry handled in the first few minutes instead of the next morning. A buyer enquires on 99acres about a 2BHK on Sarjapur Road at 7:41 pm. A WhatsApp reply in Kannada goes out within seconds, a call follows within a minute, and by 7:44 pm the buyer has a site visit booked for Saturday at 11 am.

That sequence uses Pouncer's demo data, not a real customer. The [builder walkthrough](https://pouncer.in/case-studies/builder-walkthrough) follows it step by step. ## Questions

### Should we call buyers late at night if they enquired late?

Usually not. Reply on WhatsApp straight away so the buyer knows you have the enquiry, then call at a reasonable hour the next morning. The reply holds the lead; the call qualifies it.

### How do I find my own after-hours share?

Export a month of leads from your portal dashboard or CRM with their timestamps. Count how many arrived after 7 pm on weekdays, and at any time on Sundays. Then check how long those leads waited for a first reply.

### Do auto-replies annoy buyers?

In our view, a short reply that names the property and says when a call will come is useful to the buyer. A generic "thanks for your interest" with no follow-up is the kind that annoys.
